About the Safer Streets project

<h2 id="isPasted" tabindex="0">About the Women&#39;s Safety Safer Streets Project</h2>New data published by UN Women UK has found that, unfortunately the majority of women and girls in the UK are experiencing sexual harassment in public spaces.This project, overseen by the Oxford Safer Communities Partnership, aims to reduce the risk to women and girls during a night-out in Oxford. &nbsp;Everyone deserves to feel safe and enjoy everything Oxford has to offer.How to get involved?This map aims to provide women and girls with a way to voice where they feel safe or unsafe, and so provide data to the partnership and ideas for change.&nbsp;You can use the map to give us feedback on as many places as you <a data-id="ea72d09b-fcdb-4f36-b650-8cd65bd333fa" href="http://want.as/"></a>want. Whether it&rsquo;s just to have a conversation, to call a friend, ask someone to call a cab, or even to dial 999 &ndash; these are places where a friendly face is guaranteed, and support will always be provided. &nbsp;A range of businesses operating during the Night-time economy have signed up including pubs, clubs and hotels.Safe Places organisations can be identified through the Safe Places logo on their windows, or through the Safe Places App. Visit the Safe Place Oxford webpage to find out more <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.safeplaces.org.uk/member-schemes/oxford" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.safeplaces.org.uk/member-schemes/oxford</a> Safe Places is an important part of the Nightsafe Oxford Network to ensure those in need can easily access a safe space during a night out. <img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1669823882/projects/624afe336e03331aee18a26c/n28ohcxi4hpkia2dsqo2.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib" data-uw-rm-ima="ai-w" style="width: 200px; height: 200px;"> Oxford City Angels<a class="fr-green" data-uw-rm-brl="pending" data-uw-rm-ext-link="" href="http://www.oxfordcityangels.org.uk" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.oxfordcityangels.org.uk</a>Established in May 2022 Oxford City Angels are a voluntary run female-focused support team working in partnership with Thames Valley Police, Oxford City Council and Nightsafe Oxford during the night-time economy.&nbsp;Oxford City Angels were created as an outcome from the Oxford Safer Street Project n order to help prevent violence against women and girls on a night out.&nbsp; Their primary and priority function is to support the safety and security of women and girls at night. They deliver this through proactive high visibility patrols and engagement on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings between 22:00 and 04:00. Volunteers are DBS check and have been trained in Bystander Intervention Against Sexual Harassment, Conflict Management and Safer De-escalation and First Aid. During a shift the team will be deployed either on foot, Voi eScooters or in a vehicle &nbsp;patrolling the Cowley Road area and the City Centre. &nbsp;Volunteers will proactively engage with a vulnerable person and offer immediate support in order to reduce the risk of harm.
